New Ice Age approaching?

An article in today's Pravda claims that a new Ice Age is imminent. For years we have been treated, courtesy of Mr. Al Gore, to a steady diet of man made global warming threats. I had been wondering for some time, whether the whole thing was just a gimmick to syphon more tax Dollars out of our already emaciated pockets. If anybody has good information or an opinion based on scientific facts, let's hear it. Excerpt of the article:

"The earth is now on the brink of entering another Ice Age, according to a large and compelling body of evidence from within the field of climate science. Many sources of data which provide our knowledge base of long-term climate change indicate that the warm, twelve thousand year-long Holocene period will rather soon be coming to an end, and then the earth will return to Ice Age conditions for the next 100,000 years.
Ice cores, ocean sediment cores, the geologic record, and studies of ancient plant and animal populations all demonstrate a regular cyclic pattern of Ice Age glacial maximums which each last about 100,000 years, separated by intervening warm interglacials, each lasting about 12,000 years."

This raises a further question: What effect, if any, will the appointment of Carol M. Browner to the post of Global Warming Czar have, if there is no more global warming, or does she know it? Apparently Ms. Browner is or was a member of a Socialist group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, who advocates "Global Governance" and who promotes the idea that rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change. (Source: Washington Times 1/12/2009). A further question is: Would a president Obama promote the shrinking of the US Economy?
